I love Prince of Darkness, I have a hard time with some of the plot elements: both Christ and the Devil being some sort of Lovecraftian alien god but the mood (a real sense of dread) of the movie is amazing, much like The Fog, probably my favorite Carpenter flick. Both movies suffer from writing issues but you watch these movies for the mood and tenor that Carpenter sets, I can see why he views himself more as a musician than a film-maker.

I don’t think its so much ‘‘LOVECRAFTIAN’’ - in the story, Christ IS Christ - he IS everything the GOSPELS claim he IS. His miracles WERE literal miracles. BUT Christ was of Extraterrestrial ORIGIN. Yes, that’s BLASPHEMOUS but its NOT a punitive take.

The DEVIL being an ALIEN tracks - the MANICHEAN/NEO-PLATONIST take (and SOME of this remains in ORIENTAL CHRISTIANITY) is that the UNIVERSE - MATTER/the ‘‘BIG BANG’’ was Satan colliding with the VOID and his corpus shattering into infinite pieces.

Even REJECTING that lore OUTRIGHT, the Devil WOULD appear to many people as an interdimensional and/or alien BEING - he/it does NOT exist on a temporal plane, and he IS a fallen angel. He is NOT of this Earth.

You’re not becoming a Unitarian Universalist on me, are you Thomas? :)

If I was a ''UNITARIAN'', I'd posit that Christ was simply an ''activist'' mortal man - or that he was the anthropomorphic representation of some egalitarian IDEAL.

IF I accepted the, ''The ANTI-CHRIST is green goo from SPACE - Christ is a benevolent ET, SATAN is an eldritch, cosmic MONSTER - and only CATHOLIC PRIESTS initiated into weird orders can SAVE US'' I'd be some crank ROSICRUCIAN type enthusiast or some ODDBALL neo-Platonist.

I'm a BIBLE PROD - and that SHOULD be clear in everything I say/do/write. I'm ALSO a kulturkampf partisan and I like ROCK N ROLL and SCIENCE FANTASY and horror movies and stuff.

So you're NOT gonna find me tryna throw SHADE on stuff I find COOL even if its Theologically erroneous.

The first 2 are really good choices. I always found that flying silver ball so campy yet terrifying.

Phantasm 2 might be my favorite horror film. Watched it when it aired on Monstervision. I was so captivated that I remembered more or less the whole movie until I saw it again, 8 or 9 years later.

Still need to see Phantasm. Saw a scene as a kid where the kid slammed a door on a Jawa's hand and the fingers came off and started wiggling... Kinda really creeped me out (I was five gmab).

Henry was a mood. Just sat around smoking after it was done.

Prince of Darkness did the most impactful thing (imo) of terrifying you by Not Really Showing You. Just glimpses of things that are WRONG ON INSTANCE, like drowning in an eternal sideways hell ocean.
